A Favela Tour reveals the way of life of around 20% of Rio’s population. It alters
the conception that favelas are simply no-go areas dominated by criminals, and
opens a new perspective of Rio society; its contrasts and paradoxes. The tour
takes visitors to the community of Vila Canoas, with around 2,500 people, and Rocinha, the largest favela in Brazil, with a population of 85, 000 dwellers. Led by a talented cast of dancers and performers, you will be taken on a cultural
journey through popular Brazilian music. Its history started when the Portuguese

Surfing is a very popular activity in Rio, right after soccer – the favorite national sport! The long coast offers wonderful areas for surfing, with many beach breaks providing ideal conditions for easy and safe learning. The best beaches are Barra da Tijuca, Prainha and Grumari, on the West zone. Qualified instructors are prepared to either teach beginners or assist experienced surfers. Return transportation and all necessary equipment are included, along with local carioca expertise!
Rio’s Nightlife Tour
Rio is world famous for its music. With your knowledgeable guide, mix with the
local audience to hear and dance to the best in the city! There is music for all
tastes in Rio, but the most interesting places for visitors are the bars in Lapa,
the old area of downtown. On any night of the week, you will find a variety of
talented musicians playing live Brazilian music. Lapa has just recently boomed as a nightlife area, the first of the music venues opened only eight years ago. What is remarkable is the mixed audience that’s attracted by samba and chorinho (a faster beat with less percussion and more strings). You will see people from 18 to 80, dancing and singing the old songs that everyone knows by heart. TOP ↑

TOP ↑

This park is known as the largest urban forest on earth. Its huge mountains
covered with tropical vegetation contrast with dramatic granite rocks forming

Known as the cidade maravilhosa (marvelous city), Rio de Janeiro certainly lives up to its name. Its incredible diverse landscape offers sparkling white sand beaches and lush rainforest, ensuring every lucky visitor to the city will leave happy. Fans from around the globe will flock to the 2016 Summer Games in Rio and although sporting events will be the highlight for most, Rio boasts an endless list of activities and attractions. From relaxing on the beach, to taking a trip up Corcovado or Sugarloaf Mountains, to hiking through the sub-tropical rainforest, there truly is something for everyone. In fact, some of the venues alone, such as Maracanã Stadium, are attractions in themselves.
With Brazil also playing host to the World Cup in 2014, not only will Rio be the center of the sporting world leading up to 2016, they will undoubtedly be well-prepared to host the much-anticipated 2016 Summer Games. Aiming to deliver the greatest sporting event in the world, preparations for the Rio Games began even before they won the bid to host in 2009. As the first South American country to host the Summer Games, the stakes are high, and Rio’s version is sure to impress.
For the 2016 Summer Games, Rio’s Event Venues Have Been Divided into 4 Zones:
Located in the west part of the city, affluent Barra is visually stunning. With panoramic mountain views, aquamarine beaches, and acres of greenspace, Barra’s natural beauty will provide a spectacular backdrop for the 2016 Summer Games.
Hosting 20 different disciplines and showcasing half of the games’ athletes, the Barra Zone will be the center of the action in 2016. Barra is home to both Rio Olympic Park and the Olympic Village and will feature some of the most popular events, including basketball, diving, and swimming, just to name a few.
World-famous Copacabana is what many people envision of when they think of Rio; the long stretch of beach, friendly, fun-loving locals (known as Cariocas), open-air cafes, and lively dance halls ensure there is always something to do at any time of the day (or night)!
Copacabana Zone venues include Copacabana Stadium, which in the summer of 2016 will be filled with enthusiastic beach volleyball fans, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas for rowing and cayak/canoe sprint, and Fort Copacabana, where thousands of fans will cheer on their hometown heroes in the rowing competitions. Other notable sports in Copacabana include triathlon, swimming (open water), and cycling.
Just North of Copacabana is the Maracanã Zone. Close to the city’s downtown core and Rio de Janeiro State University, the area has a promenade and bicycle path, attracting people to the area for both work and play.
Site of the opening and closing ceremonies, Maracanã Stadium will also play host to the World Cup Final in 2014. This area also boasts João Havelange Stadium and Maracanãzinho Arena. Fans of athletics, volleyball, and of course football, can look forward to spending time the popular Maracanã Zone.
Also in western Rio, and north of the Barra Zone, rests Deodoro. The most rural of all four zones, it offers a more suburban feel, with plenty of green space surrounding the venues, and is popular with younger Cariocas.
Among the many venues in Deodoro are the National Equestrian Center and X Park, which will house Olympic Mountain Bike Park, Olympic Whitewater Stadium, and Olympic BMX Center. As a result, the summer of 2016 will see Deodoro filled with an interesting blend of equine fans and extreme sports enthusiasts.
