This tour allows you to explore Doha based on your own tastes and preferences. On the half day tour, you will have your choice to visit one of three iconic Qatari attractions, and for those wishing for a longer experience, the full day tour includes entrance to two attractions. The stunning Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), designed by I.M. Pei, boasts magnificent and imaginatively presented displays of fine Islamic art which have earned it worldwide recognition. Secondly, the immersive and experiential National Museum of Qatar exhibits the history of Qatar up to present day. Discover Qatar’s rich heritage and culture at this spectacular venue, and learn the country’s aspirations for the future. The museum is just a few years old, yet has already become one of the country’s most recognizable and revered attractions. Finally, the always popular Souq Waqif, noted for its traditional architecture and its multitude of local shops, is a must see in Doha. Browse the handicrafts and discover areas dedicated to animals such as horses, camels and even an area reserved for falcon handling.
Should time permit, you will also have the opportunity to visit the vibrant Msheireb district, Doha’s historic commercial area which is now modernized and inspired by Qatar’s heritage. You will be returned to your hotel with time for questions or restaurant suggestions.
Qatar boasts some spectacular natural scenery. On this half day tour, you’ll travel south of Doha to see some of its best. Embark on an exhilarating desert safari, accessible only by 4×4 vehicle. Marvel at the distinct contrasts in your surroundings as you travel from the cityscape into undulating sand dunes. The desert is an important part of Qatari culture and this unique adventure allows you to explore its wonders. For a truly authentic and memorable desert experience, this tour allows you to experience some of the area’s most exciting desert activities.
Discover the unique desert environment where sand dunes spill into the azure waters of the Inland Sea. In this exciting adventure, qualified “desert drivers” will take you through the dramatic sand dunes to Khor Al Adaid, a large tidal embayment recognized for its outstanding natural heritage value. Your driver will return you to your hotel after this exhilarating experience.
Desert Safari – Camel Ride and Dune Bashing
This full day desert adventure is another great way to see some of Qatar’s natural beauty. Your driver will transport you south of Doha to the picturesque sand dunes. In just a short drive you’ll escape the bustle of the city to the tranquil desert, an important part of Qatari culture. Here you’ll experience some thrilling activities exclusive to this landscape, including a camel ride and a memorable desert safari via 4×4 vehicle. Explore Bedouin-style camps in a beautiful nature reserve, also home to unique wildlife and lush vegetation. On this full day experience, guests will also indulge in a traditional Bedouin-style meal in a spectacular setting.
You’ll also be treated to an unforgettable experience at UNESCO-recognized Khor Al Adaid, also known as the Inland Sea. This fascinating natural phenomenon is known as the “singing dunes.” Caused by the movement of grains of sand over massive sand dunes, you can hear the singing effect by sliding down the dunes. This is one of few spots in the world where the sea reaches deep into the desert. Your knowledgeable guide will ensure you get the most out of your visit to this fascinating part of the country.
Souq Waqif and Katara Village
This half day tour allows you to explore Souq Waqif, a marketplace renowned for traditional garments, handicrafts, and souvenirs. Also home to dozens of restaurants, Souq Waqif dates back at least 100 years and is very popular with both locals and visitors alike. There’s a lot to see at this well-known market, one of Doha’s most popular attractions. A highlight is the Falcon Souq. Falconry still plays an important role in Qatari life, used for hunting both in Qatar and abroad. Discover the Falcon Hospital and the “medical vending machine,” during your visit.
From Souq Waqif you’ll head to Katara Village, a purpose-built recreational district known for its impressive design. This popular gathering place incorporates cultural activities through various social events, concerts and festivals. The entire Katara complex is built with a fusion of traditional architecture and retro-romantic style, a contrast to Doha’s modern skyscrapers. Katara Village is home to plenty of local cafes and restaurants if you fancy a bite to eat. One of the highlights of the area is the Katara Amphitheatre; overlooking the sea, it is stunning in design and fuses Islamic features with the classical Greek theatre concept. Also nearby, the Opera House offers a rich cultural experience. You’ll find plenty of photo opportunities in this architecturally rich area.
Visit to Qatar State Grand Mosque and Arabic Coffee Experience
Begin your private tour with a visit to the largest mosque in Qatar: Imam Abdul Wahhab, also known as the Qatar State Grand Mosque. This impressive mosque is comprised of 93 domes and was designed to keep worshippers cool under the hot Doha sun. Inside you’ll find three libraries, prayer and ablution halls, as well as special halls for Quran memorization. With capacity for over 30,000 people, it’s truly a sight to see.
From there you’ll be treated to an Arabic coffee experience. Arabic coffee is a cultural tradition that is about much more than the drink itself. There are elaborate rituals involved in the preparation, serving and consumption of the popular beverage. Learn about the entire process involved in enjoying a cup, including the dallah: the distinctively shaped pot it is served from. You’ll be instructed on the proper etiquette including which hand to drink with and what to do when you’ve had enough. Savour your coffee with something sweet (traditionally dates). After your coffee experience, you’ll be better prepared to enjoy the multitude of specialty coffee shops dotting the streets of Doha.
Culture of Doha – National Museum of Qatar and Museum of Islamic Art
After meeting your private guide in your hotel lobby, you’ll be escorted to the immersive and experiential National Museum of Qatar. Spectacularly designed by Jean Nouvel, the museum’s exhibits detail the history of Qatar, right up to present day. Discover Qatar’s rich heritage and culture, as well as the country’s aspirations for the future. The museum is just a few years old, yet has already become one of the country’s most recognizable and revered attractions.
Continue on to the remarkable Museum of Islamic Art. Scenically located on an island at the end of Doha’s famous Corniche, the museum was designed by I.M. Pei who specifically requested this location. Inside you’ll find 1,400 years’ worth of Islamic art, in addition to a library and a fantastic restaurant.
Enjoy privately guided tours of both of these outstanding attractions to fully understand Qatar’s unique and rich history combined with its modern culture.
