2022 Winter Games FAQ

Between our preparations for the 2022 Winter Games and the 2008 Summer Games, we’ve spent a lot of time in Beijing and have scouted the city’s hotels to ensure we find the best for our guests. We are proud to offer one of Beijing’s top properties: The Four Seasons Beijing.

The Four Seasons is one of the most sought-after luxury hotels for the 2022 Winter Games. The property offers a complete guest experience with spacious rooms, a heavenly full-service spa, excellent restaurants, and a stunning swimming pool complete with panoramic views. Its location in the Liangma area of the Central Business District provides easy access to great dining, shopping, and Winter Games venues.

All visitors to China will require a valid passport with at least 6 months’ validity. In addition to this, most visitors to the country require a China eVisa. This must be applied for in advance and is subject to a fee. Our pre-travel personal concierge team will be available to all our guests to assist with questions regarding entry requirements.

Most of our Winter Games guests will arrive in one of Beijing’s two international airports: Beijing Capital International (PEK) or the new Beijing Daxing International (PKX), which opened in 2019. Beijing is an international air hub and travelers should have plenty of options for flights for the Winter Games. That said, we do recommend booking early as flights during major sporting events do tend to book up faster than usual. Our team will greet all of our Winter Games guests at the airport of their choosing and direct them to their private hotel transfer.

Beijing’s February climate is typically cool and dry, perfect for a winter sporting event. Average daytime highs range from 37°F to 46°F (3°C to 8°C). We recommend our Winter Games guests plan to pack plenty of layers to accommodate all weather possibilities.

Winter can be a beautiful time to visit Beijing. Though temperatures regularly dip below freezing, the scenery of the city blanketed in snow can be quite scenic. In addition, it is an ideal time to watch (and even participate in) winter sports.

The currency of China is the renminbi (RMB); of which the yuan is the primary unit. Currency exchanges as well as ATMs are widely available in Beijing. Unlike in the US, cash is more popular than credit cards in China, though major cards are generally accepted at hotels, upscale restaurants, and major stores. Visitors will notice mobile payment (e.g. Alipay, WeChat) is extremely popular in Beijing, particularly with the younger generation. These apps have released international versions available to foreigners.

The venues for the 2022 Winter Games have been divided into three clusters in and around Beijing:

• Beijing Cluster – This cluster is home to most of the ice sports venues, as well as the memorable Bird’s Nest Stadium from the 2008 Summer Games, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies.
• Yangqing Cluster – Located about 75 kilometers northwest of the city center, Yangqing will host the alpine skiing events and the sliding sports: bobsled, luge, and skeleton.
• Zhangjiakou Cluster – This popular ski destination, approximately 180 kilometers from Beijing, will host the majority of the ski and snowboard events.
