2024 Summer Games Schedule
The 2024 Summer Games schedule is packed with events featuring 32 different sports. A total of 28 traditional Summer Games sports will be complemented by four recent additions: sport climbing, skateboarding, surfing and breaking, which will make its debut at these Games. Paris’s Summer Games will officially begin with the Opening Ceremonies on July 26th and conclude with the Closing Ceremonies on August 11th, though some sports will have preliminary events prior to the official start. What will be the best events at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris?
While the best events are largely a matter of personal preference, there are some events that tend to be more popular than others. Athletics, swimming, gymnastics, beach volleyball, and basketball always seem to be in high demand. Specifically for these Paris Games, the new addition of breakdancing, which is making its debut, is sure to attract some attention.
When are the best days to attend the Summer Games?
One of the great things about the Summer Games is that each day offers a different experience. Choosing which days to attend requires a few considerations including your preferred sports and your travel schedule. That said, some days are expected to be more popular than others:
July 26 – The Summer Games will kick off on July 26, 2024 with a unprecedented Opening Ceremony. For the first time, the Summer Games Opening Ceremony will not take place in a stadium, but rather outside on the famous River Seine. Boats will transport athletes and performers through the heart of the Paris, while spectators line the banks. This unique event will be open to all, allowing more people than ever to watch the ceremony live.
July 27 – Excitement will be high as the Games kick off. Medals will be awarded in 8 different sports including cycling, diving, and swimming.
August 3rd & 4th – The middle weekend of these Games is jam-packed with excitement. A total of 15 different sports will hold final events including tennis, athletics, golf, gymnastics, and swimming.
August 10 – The penultimate day of the Summer Games will offer no shortage of thrills with medal events in 15 disciplines including basketball, football (soccer), golf, athletics, and beach volleyball.
August 11 – The Games conclude with the Closing Ceremonies at the Trocadéro, overlooking the Eiffel Tower.
Popular Sporting Disciplines and Interesting Events at the Summer Games in Paris
At each Summer Games, gymnastics draws huge attention from a wide demographic. A total of 19 gymnastics events are on the schedule at these Summer Games, with the artistic gymnastics events being the most popular.
Aquatics is comprised four different disciplines: artistic swimming, diving, swimming and water polo. Combined, aquatics has dozens of events scheduled at the Summer Games in Paris. The swimming events, which are perennial favorites at each Summer Games, will take place the first week of the Games, with medal events daily.
Athletics is another hugely in-demand discipline. Track and Field events are particularly coveted, with the men’s 100 m race being one of the highlights of every Summer Games. Athletic events are scheduled from August 2nd to 10th.
Baseketball is popular largely due to the number of pro athletes who compete in the tournament. Fans can catch basketball games almost every day of the Summer Games, concluding with the finals on August 10th and 11th.

- Beach Volleyball – The tournament will play out at the Champ de Mars, overlooking the iconic Eiffel Tower.

- Marathon – The Summer Games marathon will offer a mass participation event, allowing runners from around the world the opportunity to participate on the same course as the Summer Games athletes.
When are the 2024 Summer Games Swimming Events?
Swimming Events dates – Paris La Defense Arena, scheduled between Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, August 4, 2024.
Diving Events dates – Aquatics Centre, scheduled throughout the Games with the first event on Saturday, July 27th and the last on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
Artistic Swimming Events dates – Aquatics Centre, scheduled on Monday, August 5 – Wednesday, August 7 and Friday, August 9 – Saturday, August 10, 2024.
Water Polo Events dates – Preliminary games are at the Aquatics Centre from Saturday, July 27 to Sunday, August 4th. The finals will follow at Paris La Defense Arena from Monday, August 5th to Sunday, August 11, 2024.
Marathon Swimming Events dates – Pont Alexandre III, scheduled on Thursday, August 8th and Friday, August 9, 2024.
