Driver and Guide Tour – Versailles Castle and Gardens

The Château de Versailles is one of the most beautiful achievements of 17th-century French art. The site began as a hunting lodge belonging to Louis XIII, before his son, Louis XIV, transformed and expanded it, later moving the court and government of France to Versailles in 1682. It remained a home for French Royalty until the French Revolution in 1789.

Your private guide will accompany you through Versailles’ vast chateau gardens, famed for their geometrically aligned terraces, lovely tree-lined paths, and numerous ponds and canals. The Versailles Chateau Gardens cover a total of 1,976 acres in the style of garden landscape artist André Le Nôtre. One of the most remarkable aspects of the gardens are the 50 fountains, which act as focal points and enhance the geometrical design. From late spring to early autumn, the fountains come alive as part of the annual Grandes Eaux water shows. Additional highlights include the horses and chariot of the Apollo Fountain, the Grand Canal, and the detailed parterres of the Orangerie.
