While no doubt the Summer Games are an incredible sporting event, and yes that will be the reason that Roadtrips is taking clients to Rio, we’re happy to share that between watching the world’s most talented athletes the foodies in our group are in for a real treat. Here’s a round-up of some of our favouite Rio de Janeiro restaurants that we frequented during the World Cup, and can’t wait to go back to in 2016:
French inspired CT Boucherie is located in Leblon, the most exclusive and affluent neighbourhood in Rio. Celebrated Rio chef Claude Troisgros pays homage to the famed Brazilian churrascaria tradition, where servers bring platter after platter of meat to your table, but with a twist – you chose your meats (the prime rib is locally famous) and instead the servers bring you dish after dish of delectable side dishes (the best mashed potato you’ll ever taste, stuffed tomatoes, other inventive sides). Eating here is a wonderful, unforgettable experience.
Rio restaurants do international foods well, and Alessandro E Frederico perfectly blends Brazilian favourites with Italian classics such as risottos and hand-made pastas. You can eat in the stylish two-story dining room, or al fresco, and the atmosphere both inside and out is very chic. There’s also a wood fired pizza oven in which they make the most delectable pizzas, and a great wine list.
Brigite’s on Rua Dias Ferreira offers a chance to eat drink and be merry with Rio’s hip young things, and there you can indulge yourself with their experimental cocktail menu and lots of interesting dishes such as duck confit with manioc gratin (heavenly) and lots of great vegetarian options. Brigite’s is definitely less formal (you can grab a seat at the bar here), than some of our other Rio favourites, but it never disappoints.
Another fashionable restaurant we love is Zuka, which is also located in Leblon. Dishes here are amazing, from the fois gras through to the fish dishes such as seared tuna that sits on a bed of hand-made linguine. Meats and fish are grilled behind the bar (a great place to sit if you’re one of those people that likes to watch chefs working their magic), and there’s a fab cocktail list to try and work your way through too. Desserts here are superb too.
Visits to restaurants like this are just part of the extravagance you’ll experience as part of our Ultimate Summer Games Package, but all our trips are fully customizable so they are perfectly tailored to match your desires for your time in Rio.
