As obsessive sports fans, everyone in the Roadtrips office is always pretty excited about the packages we put together. The luxury Winter Games experiences we are offering for South Korea are definitely front of mind right now, not only because we love the sports that we’ll get to watch there, but also because the cuisine of that region is just incredible.
Yes, we love sports, but the Roadtrips team are also foodies. We love helping our guests search out the best food at every destination we travel to, and often first reports from our President Dave Guenther after he scouts a destination relate to the amazing restaurants he discovered there. We ate a lot of steak in Rio when we were there for the last Summer Games, and we can’t wait to dig into everything that Seoul has to offer when we get there for the Winter Games.
If you’re thinking, “Wait, aren’t the packages based out in PyeongChang?” we should tell you why our guests will be mostly staying in Seoul, South Korea’s capital city. Here at Roadtrips it is all about creating ultimate travel experiences, and our guests will be better served in that regard staying in Seoul, a beautiful and fantastic world-class city with accommodations to match our guests’ high expectations. Logistics are taken care of, so staying in Seoul will make little difference in terms of getting to the Games.
“Seoul has a real vibe, it’s a city that constantly has something going on,” says Roadtrips Vice President Duane Penner. “There are temples and palaces, amazing architecture, a rich culture, and from fine dining experiences to street food this destination has a huge amount of culinary cachet.”
Pretty much every major food and travel magazine has covered Korean food lately. Anthony Bourdain describes the cuisine as delicious and exciting, “spicy, funky, fermented, that whole spectrum of flavors.” There’s a huge variety to be found in Korean food, and flavor combinations that are so unique that your first Korean meal often has an addictive quality.
You’ll find way more than just Korean food in Seoul though – this is a top destination that serves up everything a luxury traveler could want. Although Seoul is a big city with a population of just over 10 million, most things that visitors will want to experience are very centralized so you’ll have no trouble getting to see the things that are most important to you when you visit.
Because we operate using excellent local guides, you’ll get to experience way more true Korean culture than if you chose to travel solo (and because we handle all logistics, your trip to the Winter Games with us will be low stress at all times). “We’re all about creating ultimate experiences,” says Penner, “And that’s what we’re serving up here.” South Korea is amazing, and we can’t wait to show it off to our guests.
