Experience Tennis’ Best while Experiencing the Best of Paris!
Watch all the drama unfold as the best in tennis come together to battle it out for the world’s greatest clay court championship, the 2014 French Open! Held at the famous Roland Garros Stadium in Paris, France, the second tournament of the Grand Slam is the only one to be played on a clay court. Considered by many to be a much more difficult surface to play on than grass (due to the slower moving, yet higher bouncing ball), this court and tournament forces players to demonstrate their true skill, and prove that they have what it takes to walk away with the top prize.
Join us and soak up the ambience of this world-class event, while sampling the best food, views, shopping, and nightlife this beautiful city has to offer. Our French Open experiences will demonstrate to the nth degree the luxury this illustrious city is famous for. There really is nothing like Paris in the springtime.
Roadtrips can customize your 2014 French Open experience with several different options. Whether you want to see certain players or matches in the round robin, or just the quarterfinals, semifinals, or final match, we will make it happen. You decide how long or short you want your trip to be, and we’ll take care of all the arrangements.

The Ultimate French Open Experience
“As one of the world’s top tennis events in one of Europe’s most popular destinations, your French Open experience is sure to create memories that last a lifetime.”
The French Open tennis tournament, held in Paris every May, is one of the most exciting tennis grand slam events, which also include the US Open, Wimbledon, and the Australian Open. Played on red clay courts, it’s famous for watching the sport’s top players skid across the red clay, giving their all for this storied tournament. Because of the slower (clay) playing surface, and the five-set men’s singles matches without a tiebreak in the final set, the event is also widely considered to be most physically demanding tennis tournament, and tends to provide epic rallies in these grueling matches.
Below you will find a suggested sample itinerary, please remember we will work with you to completely customize your preferred experience based on your tastes, desires and budget.
Day 1 – Monday, May 26, 2014
Upon arrival at Charles de Gaulle International Airport you will be greeted outside of baggage claim and taken by private sedan to your luxury home for this experience, the five-star Shangri-La Hotel Paris. This impressive 19th-century mansion overlooking the Eiffel Tower from the Right Bank was once the stately home of Prince Roland Bonaparte, grandnephew of the Emperor himself. Many of the luxurious historical details have been carefully restored or faithfully re-created for the property’s transformation into the first Shangri-La hotel in Europe. It is no wonder it has quickly become a favorite luxury boutique hotel for the discriminating traveler.
Tonight you will dine at the Shangri-La’s acclaimed L’Abeille. Named in homage to Napoleon’s favorite emblem, the bee, this French gastronomic restaurant offers sophisticated cuisine created by renowned chef Philippe Labbé, who was awarded 2 Michelin stars in the Michelin Guide 2012. In an enchanting atmosphere next to the garden, L’Abeille promises to reveal new emotions in aesthetics and flavors through hallmarks of culinary excellence including exceptional products and technique.
Day 2 – Tuesday, May 27, 2014
Enjoy a wonderful breakfast at your leisure. You will be met in the lobby mid-morning and taken by private sedan to Roland Garros for your first French Open session. You will almost be able to get a little red clay on your tennis whites as you experience men’s and women’s singles matches at Court Philippe Chatrier. Your 100 level seats ensure you’re up close to all the incredible sights and sounds of this Grand Slam event. After tennis and a stop to pick up some French Open tennis gear for friends back home at the club, your private car will meet you for your transfer back to the Shangri-La.
After some time to relax and enjoy the stunningly close view of the Eiffel Tower from the hotel, you will head towards tonight’s elegant Seine River dinner cruise. This luxurious vintage yacht recalls the era of bygone romance when the likes of Hemingway called Paris home. Your window table offers incredible nighttime views of this beautiful city while you enjoy a multi-course dinner prepared by a 2-star Michelin chef. If you would like to add to the romance of this era, we can arrange to have you picked up in a horse and carriage or vintage Rolls Royce. It will truly be a night to remember.
Day 3 – Wednesday, May 28, 2014
After breakfast and a leisurely morning, your guide will pick you up for a private tour of Paris in a Mercedes sedan. This tour is designed to give you a great overview of the most spectacular and renowned monuments and historical sites of this famed city. Start your journey at the center of Paris and the beautiful Opera Garnier (it inspired “Phantom of the Opera”). A few of the other highlights include a private guided visit to Notre Dame, a short walking tour of the Marais District and Rue des Francs Bourgeois where royalty and nobility once walked. You will then travel on the Left Bank, the old Paris, and then scholastic Paris with the Latin Quarter, the Sorbonne and the Pantheon. You will view the spectacular Luxembourg Garden with the Statue of Liberty, the Church of St Sulpice and the St Germain district (home of many musicians, writers and painters in the roaring twenties). Enjoy a great Parisienne lunch at a typical French bistro before continuing along to the French Institute, the Orsay Museum, the Concorde Square, Champs Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe, the Grand Palais, Napoleon’s Tomb and the Eiffel Tower. You can direct your guide on which attractions you would like to explore in more detail. Next you will head to Montmartre, the village of the artists, and the highest vantage point in Paris. You will have time for a short walking tour to discover the famous Place du Tertre with its cafes and shops and the eternal white Sacre Coeur Basilica before heading back to your home at the Shangri-La.
Tonight’s dinner is a more casual affair though it will be no less impressive. Your experience at St. Germain hotspot L’Affable will give you a taste, pun intended, “of where a discriminating Parisian goes when looking for a neighborhood bistro to satisfy their hankering for French comfort food.” The interiors are all mosaic tile floors and ancient beams, and the guests are mostly well-bred locals (you’ll see a lot of Hermès). But it’s hardly stuffy: The waitresses are adorable, and the food—creative modern bistro cooking—is undeniably delicious.
Day 4 – Thursday, May 29, 2014
Breakfast at your leisure before your private sedan delivers you to Roland Garros and your second French Open session. You will again enjoy top-level seating as you sit up close to today’s biggest tennis stars for round two of the Men’s and Ladies’ single matches. After tennis your private car will meet you for your transfer back to the Shangri-La.
Tonight’s dinner is on your own. The concierge will gladly give you some great recommendations, or maybe indulge your adventuresome side and head into the lively 7th Arrondissement for some great food. Known as St. Germain des Pres because of the church landmark, this area has numerous great restaurants. (Roadtrips’ favorite is the contemporary brasserie Chez les Anges).
Day 5 – Friday, May 30, 2014
After today’s breakfast you say farewell to the Shangri-La and head into the fabled and incredibly picturesque Loire Valley. You will step into history and get a taste of the lavish lifestyles of the aristocracy of centuries past, in the beautiful Loire region. This is famous château country with some of the grandest country manors and fortified castles anywhere in France. It’s hardly surprising that it has been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. And what better way to experience the area than from your own château – the tranquil and spectacular Domaine des Hauts de Loire. Built as a grand hunting lodge in the 19th century for the Count de Rostaing, the ivy-covered château is framed by tall trees and reflected in a tranquil lake where swans glide lazily by. This beautiful setting is also home to a restaurant with two Michelin stars. Chef Rémy Giraud specializes in ”classical-modern” cuisine, serving up delicacies like lime soufflé, crémeux of crab in a sea urchin emulsion and jasmine, young pigeon of Madame Lebert and more. The exquisite food is paired with local white wines like Vouvray, Montlouis or Touraine. Tonight you will experience the skill and art of Chef Rémy at a multi-course dinner at this acclaimed restaurant.
Day 6 – Saturday, May 31, 2014
After a wonderful breakfast on the terrace you will meet your guide for a luxurious and completely customized tour of Château country. Your Mercedes awaits to whisk you to some of the most stunning and grandiose residences you will ever see. At whatever pace you prefer, we will develop a day of incredible château visits, a gourmet lunch, a knowledgeable and friendly professional guide, and some of the most beautiful vistas in all of France. Upon return to the Domaine des Hauts you can relax with a swim or a tranquil stroll through the forested grounds before one more culinary experience at the Michelin starred L’Orangerie du Château.
Only a short drive away and located next to the château, one of the castle’s former outbuildings holds the grandest and best restaurant in the area. Michelin starred Chef Jean-Marc Molveaux presides over a floral-themed dining room where faithful customers and the most discerning foodies visiting Blois delight in his filet mignon with truffles. You can also sample his lovely medley of shellfish and nuts in cream sauce, or perfectly roasted monkfish flavored with fresh thyme. Everything tastes better with a Sauvignon de Touraine. For dessert, our favorite is melted chocolate and pistachio with crème fraîche.
Day 7 – Sunday, June 1, 2014
After one more idyllic morning of French pastries and the perfect cappuccino, it is time to bid adieu to the Loire Valley. Your driver will transfer to Paris and the airport for your journey home or wherever your travels take you. Bon Voyage!

Named after the famous French pilot who fought during World War I, and also the first pilot to fly over the Mediterranean Sea, Stade Roland Garros (Roland Garros Stadium) has always been home to the French Open. Constructed in 1928, this facility is spread over 21 acres and contains 20 courts.
Also known as “Annexe Tickets,” these are very popular as they provide access to the many great matches played on the outside courts or “courts annexes.” These French Open Grounds Passes will give you access to all the outside courts but do not offer access to the stadiums: Philippe Chatrier, Suzanne Lenglen, or Court 1. Seating is on a first come, first served basis, so it’s important to know where the matches you’re interested in viewing will be taking place and to get there early to secure seats. During the first week you can catch some great singles matches and as the tournament progresses there will primarily be main draw doubles, mixed doubles, and junior and senior matches played on the outside courts. In addition to the action on the courts you will be able to enjoy all the activity that Roland Garros has to offer including the Practice Courts, (which are great for autographs), souvenir areas, food areas, and of course the excitement in the “Place des Mousquetaires” where hundreds of fans congregate between Court 1 and Center Court Philippe Chatrier to watch the action taking place on the main show courts on the huge video screen.
Court Philippe Chatrier & Suzanne Lenglen
A ticket on Court Philippe Chatrier or Suzanne Lenglen gives you a reserved seat for the entire day on that particular court with access to all the outside courts (other show courts are not included). Both show courts (Philippe Chatrier and Suzanne Lenglen) offer an absolutely equal level of entertainment and skill in their matches through Wednesday of the second week, with top seeds such as Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Ivanovic, Williams, etc. having been placed on the Suzanne Lenglen Court for matches. From Thursday of the second week, through to the end of the tournament, all featured singles matches are played only on the Philippe Chatrier Center Court and therefore all show court tickets from Thursday of the second week till the end of the tournament will only be on Court Philippe Chatrier. It is impossible to know which court a certain player will be placed on in advance as this is determined only the night before. The overall seating capacity on the Philippe Chatrier Court is 14,840.
Court Philippe Chatrier is divided into Category 1 and Category 2 seating. The Category 1 or Lower Level section on Center Court begins approximately 2 to 10 rows off the court depending on which section your ticket is in. The first couple of rows are occupied by Corporate “Loge Level” seats. Your Center Court ticket is valid for the entire day and gives you a reserved seat on Center Court and allows you to roam all the outside courts except court Suzanne Lenglen and Court 1 which require a separate ticket for entry.
