The Best Rio Hotels to Stay in for the Summer Games

There are some fantastic hotels in Rio de Janeiro, but one worry that we hear over and over from people that are planning to travel to the city for the Summer Games, is that they’ve heard there is an accommodation shortage.

While it is true that Rio has fewer high quality hotels than previous Summer Games host cities, and that it may not be easy to get accommodation, we have already booked up blocks of rooms (and sometimes entire properties) for the games. Travel with us, and have no fear – we’ve got some of the best Rio hotels lined up already for our guests. Here’s a round up of some of our top hotels in Rio:

Caesar Park Ipanema by Sofitel is an elegant property right on the boardwalk at super chic Ipanema Beach. This luxurious hotel has a fantastic pool and spa, beach service, and a great restaurant on site (Galani, which specializes in Brazilian cuisine). Staying here puts you close to many Summer Games sites, but also in the heart of Rio’s shopping and entertainment districts.

Hotel Santa Teresa is one of South America’s most beautiful hotels, offering up old world charm and sophistication in a spectacular location that is close to all Summer Games sites. Eating at the hotel’s superb Térèze Restaurant is an incredible culinary experience that affords magical views over Guanabara Bay, and the accommodations are just gorgeous, whether you opt to stay in the Panoramic Loft Suite, which Wallpaper Magazine calls the World’s Best Hotel Suite, or a deluxe room.

Mama Ruisa is a spectacular boutique property in the Santa Teresa neighborhood. Every room is cool, and unique, with such incredible attention to detail everywhere you look. This property is so stylish that it is often used in fashion photo-shoots. Roadtrips has the entire property booked for the Summer Games, including the Mama Ruisa Annex (a private villa with five bedrooms, just perfect for a family group).

Porto Bay Rio Internacional puts you right on legendary Copacabana Beach. There’s a stunning rooftop pool that offers incredible views out over Rio’s beaches, and you can sip on a cocktail watching the sunset over them at the rooftop bar once the day is done. Ideally located with well-appointed rooms, there’s plenty to do in and around the hotel when you aren’t watching the Games.

Golden Tulip Ipanema Plaza is just steps from Ipanema, and offers contemporary rooms in a great location (you’re just steps from the famous beach and entertainment district of this vibrant neighborhood). This property has a fabulous rooftop pool, and the restaurant, Opium, has an intriguing mix of cuisines with both indoor and outdoor dining.

Fantastic! We booked our trip to the 2012 London Olympics with Roadtrips. They did a wonderful job arranging lodging and tickets to events. They were on site at our hotel and always available to answer questions and arrange activities. Would absolutely use them again!
