Team USA Looking Strong for the Women’s World Cup

On March 11th, Team USA won their 10th Algarve Cup in France, which obviously bodes very well indeed for the upcoming Women’s World Cup that will be held in six cities across Canada from June 7th through 17th. The team is strong, and a definite super-power in women’s soccer.

Team USA won the first Women’s World Cup in 1991, again in 1999, were runners up in 2011 (defeated by Japan) and placed third in every other tournament. Team USA has also won four Olympic gold medals. You can expect that every one of the matches that they play will be some of the best soccer you’re ever likely to see anywhere.

Amongst the team are some of the world’s most celebrated sports personalities. Take for example Hope Solo, who has been goalkeeping for the team since 2000 and currently holds the US record for the most career shoutouts, and won the Golden Glove for best keeper at the last Women’s World Cup. Captain Christie Rampone has played in four World Cup tournaments, the past three Olympic Games, and gathered many medals in the course of her career.

Abby Wambach is the highest all-time goal scorer for Team USA and is known for scoring goals with diving headers – very entertaining to watch. Wambach was named the 2012 FIFA World Player of the year, and has won many more awards over the course of her career. In a recent article, Wamback was quoted as saying that the team must sacrifice everything to win this year’s World Cup, so you guarantee her performance will be stellar, just like her teammates.canada-usa

My daughter and I went to the Women's World Cup in Winnipeg, Canada back in June of 2015. Our experience was great. The Roadtrips service was fantastic. I will use them again.
