We’ve secured a range of high quality accommodations for our guests that are coming to Rio with us next year, but we are particularly excited to be able to offer rooms at the stunning Mama Ruisa Boutique Hotel. Located in the Santa Teresa neighbourhood, the Mama Ruisa was originally an old plantation home that has been lovingly renovated into an eight-room hotel filled with art and antiques. This special property has been featured in Wallpaper, Vogue and Elle magazines, amongst many others, and offers such personal service that staying there is a truly beautiful experience.
Mama Ruisa was developed by Jean Michel Ruis, a Frenchman with a very artistic touch who fell in love with Rio and decided to create this very special property. (Ruis previously worked for le Méridien and Concord Hotels, so had the background to create something this incredibly unique and luxurious.) More luxury guesthouse than hotel, each room is beautifully outfitted with an exotic Brazilian feel that has a French touch – and is completely different to every other room. There’s a beautiful pool surrounded by lush vegetation where guests can take breakfast should they so desire, and a lovely public area on the main floor that has a feeling of a gallery. As soon as you enter the doors of this exquisite property, you can see why it has garnered so much media attention, and been used in many fashion shoots.
The sweeping views from the Mama Ruisa Boutique Hotel are spectacular, and guests are able to look down over Rio’s downtown, beaches, and out over Sugarloaf Mountain. Being in the Santa Teresa neighbourhood is perfect too, as you’re just 15 minutes from the city where all the Summer Games action is taking place, as well as of course the beaches and everything else you would want to experience in Rio. “Being in Santa Teresa in general feels like you’ve completely escaped the city to some colonial town with cobbled streets, full of galleries, bars, and restaurants, it’s a very different feel up there,” says Roadtrips Owner Dave Gunther, who has spent time at the property and in the neighbourhood.
Roadtrips has the entire property booked for the Summer Games, but also has the Mama Ruisa Annex available, which is a five bedroom private villa perfect for families, in the same elegant and simple style as the main property and with its own private pool.
