When the Super Bowl is held in Texas, those who attend are guaranteed a good time. Texans are crazy about their sports, and in Houston this seems to ring especially true. Whether locals are backing MLB team the Astros, the NBA Rockets, soccer team the Houston Dynamo, or of course NFL team the Texans, the tailgates are down and pride is raised high. Needless to say we are super excited to be taking guests to the 2017 Super Bowl in Houston next February.
You might come to Houston for the 2017 Super Bowl, or find yourself there on a business trip, but while you’re staying in Houston there’s plenty to keep the sports lover entertained.
If you’re a golfer, then you’re going to love the choices you have when it comes to courses in Houston. There are 165 courses in and around the city, offering a range of amenities suited to every skill level. Blackhorse Golf Club is known as being particularly challenging, and somewhat pricey, but those who love it, really love it. If you love a good links style course then check out Canongate at Magnolia Creek. Traditions Club at Texas A&M is Nicklaus designed and offers plenty of challenge in a glorious setting.
It stands to reason that a city so deeply committed to sports is going to have some excellent sports bars, and Houston does not disappoint on this front. Bovine & Barley is a downtown gastro-pub with seven big screens and a projector, so you can watch the games while enjoying some really excellent food (everything from burgers and southern fried chicken to hearty salads). Bowl & Barrel is a fantastic concept; it offers everything you’d expect from an upmarket sports bar with the addition of a bowling alley – how cool is that? Dish Society is a gourmet restaurant/ sports bar. There are also more traditional sports bars than you could ever hope for.
Want to see how the Texans or any of the other teams get on with everything behind the scenes? You could take a stadium tour of NRG Stadium where you can check out the VIP box, press area, and visiting team’s locker room and more. At the Astros’ home turf, Minute Maid Park, you can take a tour or book a VIP experience on game days. You can also book a tour of the Rockets’ stadium, Toyota Stadium, and see a bunch of cool behind the scenes stuff. There are also companies that offer Houston sports tours, if you want to see it all and have someone work everything out for you.
