The question now is – Which are the must see events in the 2016 games?

The main attraction, apart from the games themselves, is that the event is being held in Rio de Janeiro, which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. It is famous for its mountains, white sand beaches and the rainforests. The world famous Copacabana Beach and Ipanema Beach are also located in Rio. The city also boasts some truly spectacular, 5-star accommodations. Apart from watching your favorite events, you can also enjoy the scenic beauty of Rio.

The event venues for the Summer Games are segregated into four zones. They are: Maracanã Zone, Copacabana Zone, Barra Zone and the Deodoro Zone.

The Barra Zone is located west of the city. It offers panoramic views of the mountains and beaches. Some of the many sports that are being held there are golf, gymnastics, basketball, tennis, water polo, and swimming. Check out the events at the Barra Zone if you want to catch a glimpse of the athletes as this is where they’ll call home during the games.

The Copacabana Zone is what Rio is famous worldwide for. The sports that are being held there are race walk, road cycling, triathlon, beach volleyball and rowing. Don’t miss the events that will be held right on the beach and catch some rays while you’re at it!

The Deodoro Zone is also located west of Rio. This zone is the most rural among all the four zones. It has a great amount of greenery and is extremely popular with young people. The sporting events that will be held here are fencing, mountain biking, hockey, and equestrian events. For those who are interested in horses, the equestrian events are not to be missed, as they will be set against the lush greenery of the Deodoro Zone.

The Maracanã Zone, closer to downtown Rio, is where the elaborate opening and closing ceremonies will take place. Apart from these, other notable events in the area include: athletics, volleyball, rugby and football – some definite must-sees during the 2016 Summer Games.
