Lenny. In a country known for its beach culture, there’s bound to be plenty of swimwear boutiques and Lenny is one of the standouts. Glorinha Paranaguá. Paranaguá’s handmade purses and are unique and sophisticated, crafted from natural Brazilian materials like bamboo. The line is a multi-generational collaboration, with Paranaguá’s daughter and granddaughter assisting the matriarch. Though her bags can be found at other upmarket shops like Barneys, Colette and Browns, a visit to Glorinha Paranaguá’s Ipanema boutique is a rare treat. Imaginarium. Started by a former doctor and a former architect who created a home-based business in order to spend more time with their daughters, Imaginarium has since evolved into 192 unique shops as well as an online shop. Osklen. Founded by Oskar Metsavaht, Osklen may be a global brand but its roots are firmly planted in Brazil. The innovative clothing collections are inspired by art, nature and science with end results that are unique and stylish. Rua Maria Quitéria, 85, Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro

Reserva. Named after the founder’s favorite beach, Reserva produces cosmopolitan, comfortable and casual clothing for the modern man. The owners were both born and bred in Rio, and their funky shop has a loft-like feel to it. Rua Maria Quitéria, 77, Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro

Atelier Ricardo Fasanello. Modern and unique furniture created by a Brazilian designer. The focus here is on local materials and offering truly one-of-a-kind items. Rua do Paraíso, 42, Rio de Janeiro
